How to Layer Body Oil and Perfume So Your Scent Lasts

Fragrance holds better on moisturized skin than on dry skin. That's why a scented body oil under your perfume is one of the easiest ways to make your scent last. Here's how to do it.

Step by step

  1. Start with damp skin. Right after a shower, pat dry so your skin is still slightly damp.
  2. Smooth on your body oil. Warm a small amount between your palms and work it over your arms, chest, shoulders and legs.
  3. Give it a minute. Let the oil settle before you reach for perfume.
  4. Spray perfume where skin is warm. Wrists, neck, inner elbows and behind the knees are the classic spots.
  5. Don't rub your wrists together. Let the perfume dry on its own.

How to pair your scents

You have two ways to go. Match the families for one bigger version of a scent you love, or mix them to make something that's only yours.

If your perfume is Try it over
Sweet or gourmand (vanilla, caramel, honey) Sweet Nostalgia: almond, honey + salted caramel
Fruity or tropical Tropiana: banana cream, mango nectar, peach + amber
Berry or fruity floral So Berry or Passion Red
Clean or white floral Something About Her: magnolia, white blossoms, milk + white musk
Woody floral Soft Gaze: orange blossom, tuberose, agave + vanilla
Warm, amber or vanilla Amber Soleil: yuzu, jasmine, amber + vanilla

Wearing body oil on its own

You don't need perfume every day. A fragrance-forward body oil worn alone gives you a softer scent that stays close to your skin, plus the glow.
